Not always. I found this lead to people wiping their feet on me like I was their doormat.

I'm learning instead to teach people how to treat me. It's a work in progress.

Good for you.
We teach people how to treat us by what we allow and tolerate in their behaviors towards us. I also think people will accept what the truly believe they deserve. That includes love and friendships. Once I changed my internal dialogue it changed the way I treated myself and the way I allow others to treat me. Ive never looked back. My relationships are the healthiest they have ever been. Best wishes on your journey.

For the most part. I don't start out being nasty to anyone, but if they want to act that way towards me they should expect it back. I'm not going to be super nice to someone who is always nasty towards me.

I start off with treating others the way I want to be treated and then return that to them. When they don’t treat me well I treat them the same way they treat me. That’s how I kee from being a doormat

Yes, I’d say at least 90% of the time, sometimes I can be a real pain though.
