Sooooo, let’s take people who are already at higher risk to commit a crime and add crippling debt to raise those statistics even higher that they will reoffend. Seems like a really great plan.

If pay to stay deters them from committing the same crime over and over I am all for it.

Also, you are referring to the pay-to-stay fee that most states have while a prisoner is incarcerated. Florida has required former prisoners to pay even after release. What other states do this?

I'll add that our whole prison system sucks, especially for those without means. This example is just one that sucks a lot.

I read it's about 40 states and it started happening in the eighties during the rise in crime during that era. I don't see how it has helped with recidivism rates.
