That doesn't make sense, because by the time he got back there, his hair would be dry again... I would have told them to wet it and brush it out.

I have curly hair too. Rule #1 is that it must be cut WHILE DRY. If the stylist was insisting on wetting it down then they are obviously not trained in dealing with curly hair.
