Why does my youngest make up tall tales ALL THE TIME?

Exactly! I would be doing the same (laughing and listening).

I would highly recommend that OP encourages the kid to write a book! Her having him create that first book could be the very thing that inspires an interest in a particular career or hobby. I'd be encouraging the creativity and giving him a means to MAINTAIN that creative mind!

And I agree on your stance about "lying to get out of trouble."

How do I prevent it?
This. I mean who knows? He could write the great American novel someday. I'd be the one to laugh and listen to it. Now if he's lying to get out of trouble that's a different problem.

Perfectly put!
