While I generally do think cash and gift cards are impersonal... if you're asking what I'd prefer my own kid receive... cash! Please give cash! She doesn't need or want anymore "stuff".

I would at least do a gift card, so it shows some effort went in. I don't like just cash for birthdays.

i think any kids would love cash and they can buy what they want! if you don't do cash, you could always do a gift card somewhere (not sure what age they are but you could maybe do build a bear or american doll or claires or even target if you have any of those near you). and yes i agree about the candy...try to find out what their fave is :)
