I think it's because we all would like to say we're not racist. But it's probably a lie. We're all wary of those different than ourselves. That's biological. The thing to do is to be aware of your prejudices, admit it to yourself, and fight against it.

I'm saying racism can have a basis in our tendencies to be wary of strangers yes. By strangers I mean those not in our "tribe". People of different color, ethnicity; S*x orientation than us. At first we may be wary of them. That's a psychological thing. As we get used to different people prejudices fade. I also think it's best if you have prejudices to recognizer them in yourself because then you can deal with them..
