My 13 year olds go to look (summer, winter, spring or fall) is leggings with shorts over them, a long sleeve shirt with a t-shirt over it. With a hoodie either on or around her waist. She looks like a weirdo, but then her friends show up wearing the same thing! Whatever, wanna look like a homeless person in mismatched clothes, go for it, not a hill to die on

I wouldn't have made it a fight but I would have said you need to go back inside and change or you're not getting out of the car once we get to the park, your choice. One thing I am a stickler for is no jammies in public during the day.
If you are bothered by shorts in cold weather, don't come to Anchorage in Dec/Jan when it's below zero and every high school kid at the bus stop is wearing a North Face Jacket and shorts.
By that age, I let my kids pick their own clothes. Unless you're attending a formal event, it's not worth making a big deal about, imo.
As long as my kids clothes are clean IDGAF how they dress.
However, it's like 8 million degrees in Texas during the summer so if they try to go outside wearing a hoodie and jeans I make them go back and change.
