If she's going to prom she's graduation age so 17 or 18. I would keep her home. By the time he got around to getting it into court she'll be an adult anyway.

She's old enough to decide not to go to her father's house.
She is too fond of books and it has turned her brain.

I mean, not necessarily. She could have been invited by a senior. Prom could mean anyone in high school. I was first invited to prom when I was a freshman, so I was 13 almost 14. She still old enough to make that decision but she may be young enough that court having an issue with it could be marginal.
