Devon Erickson: Highlands Ranch School Shooter

Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said Devon Erickson, 18, and an unnamed girl opened fire in two classrooms Tuesday.

Spurlock said investigators had not yet determined the motive for the attack.

The crime scene will be managed by the FBI, ATF and Homeland Security.

One handgun has been retrieved by the sheriff's department.

There is a suspect vehicle in the schools parking lot and the Sheriff's Department is working to obtain a search warrant for the suspect vehicles and home. Spurlock said ATF was assisting in looking into how the suspects obtained the guns.

Devon is an 18 year old senior at STEM.

On social media, Devon Erickson, a registered Democrat, expressed hatred for some Christians, and shared posts criticizing Donald Trump and praising Barack Obama.

There is a 2nd suspect in custody. The Denver Channel wrote that multiple sources say “the second suspect, who is a minor, is a transgender male who was in the midst of transitioning from female to male.

We keep looking for patterns in these shootings but I don't think it helps us much. Some are anti-Christian, some are anti-minority, some are anti-Jewish, some are anti-female. Some have been the target of bullies, some are loners, some aren't.

They shoot up work places, schools, churches, concerts, colleges and theaters. But they are not acting rationally, so trying to find a "reason" isn't going to help prevent other shootings.

Unbalanced peopled come in all shapes and sizes, though mostly the ones who shoot strangers are male. We will never be able to predict the shooters. We need to control the access to guns.
