New to this,need some help.
What do people who don't eat carbs do for bread and side dishes. Just found out DH is type 2 diabetic and have to make some changes. I'm so lost. I went and bought some stuff the doc recommended but all they have is veggies, meat and eggs on the list. Please help ladies, blood sugar is close to 300 in the am before anything to eat or drink besides his water at night.

Use lettuce for bread. You can have sandwiches that are made from pickles, mushrooms, lettuce, cabbage, eggplant, and more. You just have to be creative.

Cauliflower rice/ mashed potatoes are good. Zucchini, lettuce, portabella mushrooms.
You can literally make just about anything and make it low carb. You just have to get creative, instead of doing steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli do steak with butter on top and broccoli with cheese.
The amount of fat you put into the meal will keep you full.
There's also tons of websites to help you out. Just google low carb side alternatives.

unfortunately, because this is the result of his lifestyle choices if he doesn't take the reigns on this he won't be successful and you will end up beyond frustrated. you have to think of food as your fuel and as your medicine not food as something that you do for pleasure.
If he don't I'll leave. I won't watch him die like his father. With that being said he's more than willing we just don't know how or what lifestyle choices to change. His doc has set him up with a diabetic specialist but don't know how long before we can see her. Just trying to get a few ideas to start small with other carb choices.

does he drink soda? when my dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, as soon as he cut out sugary drinks (because he drank a lot of them), his sugar went way down and he was practically fine.

This dough is very versatile. Plop 4 equally sized blobs on a pizza stone bake for 15-18 minutes there you go cut in half you have bread, buns, a biscuit. Or roll flat for pizza dough. I have heard people also make bagels out of this.
I suggest a well seasoned pizza stone mine is 12+ years old from pampered chef it cooks this bread perfectly.

There are low carb aka keto bread recipes that you should look up. Right now you need to get his blood sugar under control so he really shouldn't be eating conventional bread, rice or pasta. Potatoes are a good source of potassium, but then so are beans and beans have a lower glycemic index. So go with beans and other veggies that have more fiber, and lower glycemic index. Veggies should be his new friend. Lots of veggies in his diet along with protein. Cheese, beef, chicken, pork, etc. Big salads for meals with 3-4 ounces of meat with nuts and salad dressing are good too.

you want to totally transform your life go vegan. Vegan will get you off of just about every medication you are on. Its transformational. I am a vegetarian, its very easy because you are still using bi-products. oil, eggs, butter, cheese. I don't consider being vegetarian transformational, you have to go all in. But I am very healthy.Anonymous 2 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 4:44 pmIf he don't I'll leave. I won't watch him die like his father.
