... For starters, the federal government is responsible for the health and welfare of anyone it detains — whether it is a criminal in a prison, a child in its foster-care system or families detained at the border. Regardless of what the children’s parents did or did not do, the United States has an obligation to the children the moment it detains them. Not to give food and water, or to check the health of those it has in custody, is inexcusable. Blaming the parents as Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen did (“This is just a very sad example of the dangers of this journey. This family chose to cross illegally”) reflects her legal and moral obtuseness. In our care, the child’s welfare became our responsibility.
...
It’s a cruel irony that Trump has portrayed refugees as a threat to Americans. In fact, the reverse is true.

Horrifying indifference to children’s lives

I agree with this opinion piece but would add that it is not only this administration that has a "horrifying indifference" to specifically brown migrant children crossing the border, but his supporters as well.

She got very ill within hours of being detained. Her father even said they were treated well. The child got sick when she was forced to walk for a week without the resources she needed. She could just as easily died in route. She got immediate medical treatment. What more did you expect to be done? The parents made the choice to take her on the journey

1) The girls had not had water or food for days BEFORE trying to enter US illegally.
2) The caravan of 163 inundated DHS at 10:30 PM, the port of entry was closed and was 90 miles from the processing location, where there is medical personell
3) The father signed a doc that she was in good health.
4) While waiting to be transported to Lordsburg, New Mexico they had access to water and restrooms.
5) On the bus ride the girl appeared ill, was then taken to a hospital by helicopter, where she died within 24 hours. What more should the US have done?

She was alive before her parents followed the previous adminsistrations call to "come here"
Her parents decided that they would come here-
The trip here killed her.

no, the failure of BP to get her medical attention upon being notified that she was ill killed her. her parents were trying to save her from serious danger.
that said, it doesn’t really matter. you all are not pro life, you’re a pack of hypocrites and nothing more.
