Um I would have sat in the backseat with my baby. I think she was trying to be considerate rather than rude.

My baby is good in the backseat so there's no need for me to sit back there and I'm glad that I'm not naive enough to think she was being considerate.

Maybe she thought you wanted to sit in the back with the new baby? Lots of women seem to want to sit next to their babies in the back seat for a while after they are born. I don't know. Just throwing it out there.
