Who is "them"? Lawmakers use Hitler inappropriately all the time. Both sides. Two idiot Republican southern lawmakers who don't know their history compared modern day democratic socialism to fascism and Hitler. Trying to make people fear democrats. We deserve better from a President to know his history and not misuse it for personal gain.BionicBunny wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 3:54 pmApparently it’s ok for them to make these references. I thought it was pretty obvious who “ them” were considering we heard of many Democrats making this comparison in the news. The biggest one being AOC.

Also not comparable to the millions killed during the Holocaust but it didn’t stop AOC and other Dems from comparing immigrant detention centers to Nazi concentration camps.MonarchMom wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 4:04 pmCertainly a phrase I'd like to see phased out. But not comparable to the estimated 4,000 - 5,0000 people brutally murdered in US by lynching.BionicBunny wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 3:57 pmI wonder if we should be outraged about the comment on hanging yourself which would be suicide.
For the record I don’t care about the phrase enough rope to hang himself. Just pointing out how easy it is to get offended over everything today.
1st of all, though many many black people were lynched. they were not the only group lynched. lynch refers to "mob justice" (not just at all) and punishment w/o due process.
2nd, the word "lynch" is used metaphorically nowadays. just like "witch hunt" and even "nazi" in certain contexts "grammar nazi" for example. not the way aoc used it btw.
I am pretty sure democrats are being intentionally obtuse here and deflecting from the fact they are being totally unfair by refusing to vote on the impeachment inquiry and in effect removing trump's ability to defend himself, give the republican house minority the chance to question witnesses, cross examine them and view evidence

There is no law saying they have to hold a vote to do an inquiry. This is not a trial. That takes place in the Senate where Trump will get to mount is "defense", such that it is. Republicans on the relevant committees are in during the testimonies.water<wine wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 9:11 pm 1st of all, though many many black people were lynched. they were not the only group lynched. lynch refers to "mob justice" (not just at all) and punishment w/o due process.

The "trial" happens in the Senate. That's when the presidents legal counsel can defend him. I have already admitted that I'm not pleased with how the House is handling this. I haven't seen Pelosi direct the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary (or a special committee) to hold a hearing on the resolution to decide whether to put the measure to a vote by the full chamber and when to hold such a vote. That makes them look suspicious as hell to me.water<wine wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 9:11 pm 1st of all, though many many black people were lynched. they were not the only group lynched. lynch refers to "mob justice" (not just at all) and punishment w/o due process.

But I'm still the winner! They lied! They cheated! They stole the election!

Just my opinion but I think it was a pretty brilliant move. Three weeks ago democrats in the house, especially those in swing districts, were worried about voting for impeachment. In just the few weeks, tide has changed and the majority of Americans want to see impeachment. After Taylor's testimony, Republicans from swing states are going to be worried about voting against impeachment. This past month has seen testimony that is pretty damning and the proceedings have been totally within the bounds of the Constitution. Pelosi will have a vote to impeach and she will have bi-partisan support. This is easier for the American public to understand than a vote for inquiry with only democrats supporting, if that makes sense.CockatooCrazyColt529 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 9:39 pmThe "trial" happens in the Senate. So fascinating how short some memories are - how many times did the Tea Party and Conservatives claim Obama was Hitler. Remember the conspiracy theory about Obama installing check points on American roads? Or when those vans were being transported and instead of finding out where they were really going, they ASSumed and made up another conspiracy theory. Or his "FEMA CAMPS"?Lemons wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 4:14 pmWho is "them"? Lawmakers use Hitler inappropriately all the time. Both sides. SUCK IT UP HYPOCRITES. You've been full of double standards since 2006, and as GOP Rep. Wilson put it, "YOU LIE!"
