yeah, most MRI orders come from a pcp or specialist-- altho, i did have a CAT scan done in the ER to rule out appendicitis...cat scan showed a torn pec muscle instead, that was bleeding -- oh the pain!!! WORSE than labor for sure- and ER it was for that pain, as i was screaming uncontrollably and they took me right in.SolidlyAverage wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 10:15 amYes. I’m not saying she shouldn’t have gone in, I’m saying that she shouldn’t expect an MRI in the ER, not shouod she go back for a work up unless something acutely changes. They aren’t there to work you up until they have a diagnosis, they are there to work you up until they are confidant that it isn’t an emergency. That was done, and the fact that she didn’t go home and die is evidence that they were correct. It was not an immediately life-threatening condition, so the treatment she provided was appropriate, even if it wasn’t what she wanted.Anonymous 2 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 10:07 amWhen someone suddenly cannot walk all of a sudden for no reason, THAT is an emergencySolidlyAverage wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 10:05 am ERs are not there to diagnose all conditions, they are there to rule out emergencies. They are correct that an x ray wouldn’t be profoundly helpful.
You need to follow up with your PCP. That’s the person who should be doing a non-emergent work up, not the ER.
They are specialists. They specialize in emergency conditions. You wouldn’t expect your cardiologist to manage your diabetes, or your psychiatrist to treat your UTI, right?
The emergency room couldnt help me
You need to go back to the er and tell them you can't sit up without help because of the pain. Maybe go to a different er if you can. There is a hospital closer to me that has a worthless er, but if I drive further I can get better treatment at a different hospital.
CTs are common tests for ERs. It’s very different from an MRI.Anonymous 2 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 10:21 amyeah, most MRI orders come from a pcp or specialist-- altho, i did have a CAT scan done in the ER to rule out appendicitis...cat scan showed a torn pec muscle instead, that was bleeding -- oh the pain!!! When someone suddenly cannot walk all of a sudden for no reason, THAT is an emergency

It had been going on since Tuesday, that’s not acute.Anonymous 2 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 9:57 amwhat would you do for an acute problem that popped up when your dr is closed? Lay there in excruciating pain unable to move waiting for a call back, or go to the ER?Smarties wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 9:45 amAnonymous 2 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2019 9:44 am
at THAT time, yes, she needed an ER....but since they treated her like shit, she should call her pcp
We can only go forward. My advice is what she should do now. And to he honest I'd have gone to an orthopedic or PCP to start with.
Google “urgent orthopedic care” for your area. We have 3-4 places that specialize in urgent orthopedic and neurological care within 15 miles.

Why wouldn't they give you an X-ray for back pain? Last I checked, you have bones. A broken hip, slipped disk, fractured vertebrae, etc would show up on an x ray. What tests did they do? And what did they determine was causing the pain?
OP does your regular clinic do X Rays? I went to urgent care once thinking I had a broken elbow once and they didn't think it was broken, just inflammed or whatever, but they WERE willing to do an xray if I wanted one. I opted out because the doctor (and older guy, I wouldn't have trusted some of the young people they bring in who can only consult their stupid i-pads with symptoms) seemed to know his stuff and I really couldn't afford it anyway. They would have done it right there on site for me, though.
I went to a different er yesterday. They did a catscan and said im constipated.I poop all the time . I just urinated on myself again because I could not stand up.I also took an enema last night and laxatives. No change in pain
