Thelma Harper wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2020 6:23 am I don't care for Sanders policies. I won't vote for him. But I think it's ridiculous to talk smack about a 78 year old man who has accumulated $2.5 million in wealth over the years. Isn't that what we're told to strive for in retirement - to work (yes, he's worked), save, invest. and build a nest egg?

Sometimes I wonder if people understand the difference between wealth and income.
I will absolutely vote for him over a corrupt president. Corruption will erode a democracy a lot faster than a president who dreams of a new Norway.

We will be electing a president, not a dictator. Trump is doing all he can to imitate a dictator and the congress who is supposed to step in on this type of behavior is paralyzed with fear right now of their own re-election. They are allowing it to happen.

Right now Republicans are trying to hide a foreign governments interference in our next election. And people are worried about what? Socialism? Our capitalism is going nowhere. Sanders isn’t trying to eliminate capitalism. Presidents aren’t that powerful.
I don't think or believe capitalism is going anywhere and I don't think it should. If president's aren't that powerful, why should we be afraid of Trump?

America is heading for hell in a snowball. I don't know how many times I have to say it. We need to get back to center. This far right and far left shit will bury us - just like Khrushchev predicted.
We need to end Trump because he’s appointing heads of departments based on their willingness to cover for him, not for their competence. . Barr and his misleading summary of the Mueller report. Congress blocking witnesses in an impeachment. Firing the director of intelligence for reporting on news he doesn’t like. All unprecedented. And all more than enough to vote out.

Anyone who claims Sanders would do more damage than Trump is wrong. You’ve seen the cult like following Trump has. That’s not a good sign in a democracy either. You have these people who will accept any lie, any deception put out there by him.

Will free state college pass if Bernie gets in? I doubt it but so what if it did. As for Medicare for all, it won’t pass. Taxes on billionaires? So what. What else is he talking about?

Says more about Americans than anything else.

It can either be hysterical or sad, depending on your view of life 😂

I don't believe Bloomberg will be able to become the Democrat primary candidate. I do strongly feel that Sanders will ultimately take that from all of them and it will be THEN that I watch a political debate.

To see Sanders vs President Trump on a debate stage will be, IMO and at the minimum, quite entertaining.

You do have a point. Trump hasn’t been able to pass some of his promises because Congress won’t let him. American presidents aren’t emperors, their power is limited. However, are we that sure that a Democratic run house won’t give Bernie whatever he wants? I wouldn’t be too quick to dismiss him as a threat just yet. I’m sure many democrats want revenge for the Republicans devotion to Trump during the impeachment. So they’re likely to have a whatever-Bernie-wants-Bernie-gets attitude.

Thing is, even Trump and his minions know that Bernie is no threat. They know that if he’s the democratic candidate, they have the re-election in the bag. Why is it that they’re focusing their attacks on Bloomberg, not Sanders? I’m sure it’s not out of respect for the elderly. It’s because they know that if Bloomberg wins the primaries, then he has a good chance at beating Trump. Sanders, not really.

The house and senate seems to always be 50/50. If it becomes overwhelmingly democratic, then I would imagine majority chooses.

All I know is Trump’s boldness in terms of making decisions based on what’s best for HIM is becoming out of control and most people just don’t pay attention or are so enamored that they think it’s fine because Jesus sent him or something. We can’t let Trump’s behavior become the norm.

I think the House, even if continued to be controlled by Democrats is divided between progressive and moderate Democrats and Medicare for All will never pass. If amazingly it did, it would never pass the Senate. I was talking to a "Bernie Bro" the other day and he said he knows this. His hope is that the electing of Bernie and the swelling of support for Medicare for All will spark both the House and Senate to pass some sort of healthcare reform package.

He feels the same about "free college". In his opinion, seeing Bernie's support, more and more state legislatures will provide free state tuition, at least for lower income students. It's already happening in some states. Our county is considered underserved and therefore all residents can attend Community College for free regardless of our income. Conversely I was just looking at tuition at one of our state universities and in-state tuition/room/board is $33,000 a year. CRAZY.

I do agree that Republicans want Bernie to be the democratic candidate (so do the Russians) and I agree that Trump can most likely beat him, if Trump is still president. My husband and his friends have a crazy/not so crazy conspiracy theory but I'll save it for another post.

Notice Bernie says there should be no billionaires, never no millionaires? how convenient for him.
Bernie has $2.5 Million? That's not bad for someone who has never had a real job. How did THAT happen??
Books! The answer is always books! How did Obama exit the Whitehouse a millionaire and buy himself a compound? Books!

It pays to know how to write well especially if you have something relevant to say.

I see what he's doing. His supporters see what he's doing. Ending his administration won't stop this train.

I don't want either of them. I want the government to get out of loans for college, I want the government to get out of healthcare. I want the government to get out of the FHA, etc. I don't want to see billion dollar corporations paying less than small businesses. We're doing it backwards. Most Americans work for what is considered a small business. Where are their tax breaks?

The government will never get out of healthcare because private companies will never insure people who can’t afford premiums and huge deductibles. And seniors would lose their insurance shortly after they stopped working. Like it or not we can never rely on the private sector alone.
