He also laughed when someone said during one of his rallies that the only way to deal with “these people” is to “shoot them”. And when asked if he was concerned that his racist comments could encourage White Nationalist violence, he sad no because “many people agree with me”.

Hmmmm...you're taking things just a bit out of context. Hasn't this been clarified multiple times? He was not making a sweeping comment about all Mexican citizens. These are snippets taken from full dialogs. He was referring to the criminal element that will seize the opportunity to cross if we open the borders or don't enforce them : the gangs, the drug peddlers, the people smugglers.

I certainly don't want people like that having free reign to come here and set up shop. We need to know who's coming into this country and the only way to do that is by having and enforcing an immigration policy that allows us to know WHO is setting up residence in our nation.

We have enough crime and murders and drugs in our major cities like Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia. They already have a hard enough time policing what's going on.

Did you hear about what happened over the weekend? The police picked up El Chappos son. The cartel decided to have a shoot out, in the streets, with the military and police. They wanted him released. They apparently blew away the good guys, and the authorities had to release the son to stop the anarchy.

By the way, from what I understand, Mexico has very strict gun laws. Huh - wonder how the gangs were able to get all of that fire power?

I live here. My family lives here. I don't want that being brought to the streets of this nation. We don't need this. The only way that's prevented is by having a firm grasp on who's coming over, which takes place when people follow immigration laws. That's why we have them. That's why they need to be enforced.

Let's Go Brandon!

ALL? No. There’s no group of people where every single one of them is the same way. But I do think that his absolutely loyal fan base has a tendency towards bigotry and that’s why he used that in his favor. He knows it, he knows exactly what to say to appease them and since what he’s saying is those things to the applause and agreement of that base, well... it’s obvious that the vast majority believe those things to be true. Whether they believed them before he fed it to them, I don’t know. But it’s obvious they were fertile ground for those things to take seed and grow.

Now, most of these things- like most of all idiotic things he says- are Twitters, not videos. You may mistrust the Washington Post, but the tweets are there and the quotes I took from there are now quite known and infamous. It was quite the scandal when he referred to Mexicans as “rapists” and referred to developing countries as “shitholes” and said “we don’t need more Haitians, send them back”.
AZLizardLady wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2019 1:05 am I'll have to look for the videos of him saying these things. Not because I doubt you but I do like to see for myself since with so much information out there for/against him, it's no longer easy to determine fact from fiction all the time. IMO and just from its own controversies, WaPo isn't always the most reliable.

Do you feel his entire voting base is comprised of racists? That it really gives all of them the "creeps?"

I’m sorry but when you say that they’re drug dealers and rapists but “some may be good people” that’s making a sweeping accusation. And he hasn’t explained anything, but he has tried to justify his words. That’s quite different.
But I see he has done a good job convincing many people of this.
Oh, and since you asked... do you know where the cartels are getting their guns? Well, mostly from the good, old U.S of A. because, as you say, here it’s not that easy. Of course, you could get an gun here and there illegally, petty thieves sometimes carry a gun, no law prevents every single crime, but to get the assault weapons they use, and in the quantity they use them they gotta go to America. And well... our schools don’t have “shooting drills” and yet we don’t go around insulting Americans and calling for them not to be allowed in the country over the violence that apparently goes on over there...

Really, you can try to justify the hateful things he says all you want. Bottom line is that, no world leader should speak that way about other countries and their people. There are ways to express a concern over safety and refer to certain issues faced by both countries without having to be a trashy bigot and encourage fear and hatred of a group or groups of people. He could say something like “it’s a fact that drug cartels settle along the border to smuggle drugs into America and can raise crime so we need to increase border security”. Instead he said “When MEXICO SENDS PEOPLE, they’re sending criminals, drug dealers and rapists”. See the difference? See what he’s doing in the latter? Blaming MEXICO. Saying Mexico is the one doing the deed purposely, “sending” to America its “bad hombres” to break havoc. And you say he’s EXPLAINED his wording rather than just going with facts? No. He’s done what a good lawyer does in court: throw in an inflammatory remark that the judge will order “struck from the record” but it’s too late. The jury heard it, everyone heard it, the little seed that he wanted to plant is planted and the damage is done. So he can know try to justify those words all he want and convince people that they were “taken out of context”. The damage is done.

I think any sitting American president and/or politician knows what to say to stir up their base. But I also know that from watching clips of his rallies to seeing the vast amount of people that show up at them, he's got a wide array of people that includes both the Latin and Black communities, who like him and who either voted for him previously or plan to now.

Many of those in his base see what is going on today in society and happen to feel that it's become more of a "fertile ground" (using your apt description) for intolerance, bigotry (and because bigotry isn't about being against a specific POC or nationality), left-leaning, socialist values that are being drilled into especially younger minds such as the ages of my own children. I follow him on Twitter and yes, he often tweets some of the most embarrassing, insulting BS like a little kid would who's been backed into a corner and is coming out fighting.

But he can also be very supportive and kind in those tweets.

I suppose it depends on what time of day...any given day...the man gets on Twitter, too. ;) lol

He does appeal to some of those you've suggested but I don't believe that his overall goal. I don't believe him to be a racist. I believe him to be a POTUS who came into this position not knowing what the hell he was doing (do any of them, really?) and has often treated his role as our American President as if he's its CEO vs its President. WRONG mistake to make.

I just don't believe him to be the hateful man so many attest to finding him to be. Ignorant at times, catty and rude, ruthless to a fault, and sometimes needing to get his head out of his ass with his reactions.

But a racist? No.
