I don't see why there is "drama" in this decision. It is a community site that has been around for many years, is privately owned, and is extremely popular with over 8 million members. The site owners and administrators perceive the current WH positions as supportive of white supremists, and don't want that promoted on their site. They can make whatever policies they choose, and members are free to participate or leave as they feel best.

"We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy," the website said Sunday in a blog post titled "New Policy: Do Not Post In Support of Trump or his Administration."

Policy:

You can still participate if you do in fact support the administration, you just can’t talk about it here.

We are not endorsing the Democrats nor banning Republicans.

We are definitely not banning conservative politics. Hate groups and intolerance are different from other types of political positions.

We are not banning people for past support.

Do not try to weaponize this policy by entrapping people who do support the Trump administration into voicing their support.

Similarly, antagonizing conservative members for their unstated positions is not acceptable.

They need to ban ALL political postings, not just one side. Oh wait. That's now how it works in the mind of Democrat.

Why do you assume Ravelry is a Democratic site? It's been around for decades, and has had many political threads over the years.

No one is banned from using the site. They just made a decision about this POTUS at this time, based on current events.

Bingo. The thing is - it's not just here. Many of the crochet groups on FB are following suit. Even those where talk is restricted to crochet only. Some are saying any mention of Ralvery is banned. Which is even more stupid because it's a knitting and crochet site that has a shit ton of cool patterns.
ugg - It's no different than Skip coming in and saying all Obama supporters must be silenced or leave. Feel the way you want, but no talk of your political side is allowed.

It's stupid.

To which all political talk should be out. The fact they took a "side" clearly states which way they lean. We can talk about the democrats all day long.
