Here's another serious question that's been really, really bothering me lately:

the dumbest thing about free colllege for all concept is that what makes something valuable is scarcity. if everyone has a college degree, it becomes the default expectation, no longer valuable, not anything that will improve your economic outlook. this is common sense. everyone and their mother has a highschool diploma and it doesnt mean squat now.

Clearly taxes.

The thing I don’t understand is that red states, which traditionally have more people in poverty and drastically lower incomes than blue, are against free college when they’re the ones who could benefit from it most. People like me could pay off a college education at a good school in a few years, so I’d rather just pay that than get dinged an extra hypothetical 10K a year on taxes forever. But my family is in the top 5% and very few red states are. Why would they not want free education? Besides purchasing a home, college is one of the largest debts incurred.

Discouraging.
How much more in taxes would you like to pay so that we can pay every Tom Dick and Harry that's going to come out of the woodwork over this stupid bullshit?
Reparations isn't going to do a damn thing. The politicians use it for VOTES and then it goes nowhere. What's discouraging is people actually think this woman has good ideas. She's been in office for HOW many years? What has she proposed and got passed? 1 bill? 2?
She needs to get her ass back in that democratic clown car.
Her idea about reparations will not work.
But the comments about her in this thread are prejudiced.
Here’s what conservatives like to say about her .

But totally OK for her to exploit Native Americans for political gain?

I can not stand her.

Why do you assume poor people want hand outs?

I didn’t assume anything, thanks. But the fact is, the vast majority of that demographic can not afford to pay for college for themselves or their children.

Depends on the college. Yes, not everyone can afford an Ivy League education. My oldest grand just graduated from high school and is registered for a local college. She is required to room her freshman year. She worked her ass off and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Because of her grades she was awarded a $30,000 scholarship over the 4 years. The state also awards money from lottery, I believe that’s another $500 a year and she’ll get more from her AP and ACT test scores. Her parents are paying for her meal plan and I think she has her freshman year covered with no loan required. After her first year she can either arrange her classes and stay with us part time and go home between classes, or do whatever she wants.

She’s actually starting college with 28 credits and has tested out of most of the required freshman courses. We are very proud of her.

Wow. Ok. 6 of the 7 states according to this article are either blue or a swing state.

Well gee if we are going to try to fix historical wrongs let’s start with paying the families of slaves what ever the going wage would have been “back then”, or to women for the years they couldn’t inherit or profit from properties they were entitled to, and while we are at it pay women who would have benefited from the ERA!

I get it, history hasn’t been kind to every sector of the residents of the country but come on. We can’t march it back only forward!
