Do you think adults with down syndrome should be "allowed" to have a family?

No, I don't think anyone should be forced sterilized but if we do, can I suggest we start with drug addicts first. Just saying.

As someone already said, those with Down Syndrome have a wide range of abilities and mental capacities. Putting all of them under the 'those with Down Syndrome shouldn't be allowed to have children' umbrella is flawed.

I don't hold with forced sterilization. It would be great if society or families could provide support for any parent at risk. Family planning, parenting classes, volunteers to help out at home. If we did that we'd stop filling our prisons. I'm sure I'll be called a bleeding heart liberal for this but you probably won't change my mind. Call it an investment in America's future.

I will admit that I don't know much about downs, but isn't it like autism where there are varying degrees or severity? If so, I think that would be a huge factor. If the person in question has the mentality of a 6 year old, they should be treated accordingly. A 6 year old would not be capable of caring for children in any capacity as they would essentially also be a child (mentally, of course, not physically). I mean, I know there are some people with downs who can work and live a very normal life, but there are some who need constant monitoring..

If we want the right to choose it has to be both ways. You can be okay with someone choosing to have an abortion but not be okay with someone choosing to keep their baby. It’s a slippery slope on what it considered desirable and what isn’t. If we say people with Down syndrome shouldn’t have kids, what’s next mental illness. Other inheritable problems.

Absolutely I feel they should be allowed to try.

Forced sterilization in this case would just be cruel and inhumane IMO.

I do not believe any forced abortion could be considered moral- ever.

Which case was it you told me about where the mom was allowed medical control over her daughter? I'm drawing a blank trying to recall.

But I'm still the winner! They lied! They cheated! They stole the election!
