Ive been participating on the Vaccine thread and it reminded me of an issue we had at my old job.

About 2 years ago I was giving an epidural when all hell was breaking out in the delivwry room. Dad and mom to be were having a screaming match because dad was F***ing adamant about having his mommy in the delivery room because he needed support. Mom was having none of it. Not because she didnt like her MIL but because Mil had an active, raging case of Shingles. After a phone call to security MIL was tresspassed and Dad was arrested and mom and baby went to a battered woman's shelter instead of her home. The whole situation was heartbreaking. I swear ignorance and douchebaggery makes me stabby

This is the reason why at certain times of the year hospitals put certain floors on lockdown. Because morons will insist on coming to visit while carrying any number of illness. Two of our local hospitals have the birthing centers on lockdown for anyone under age like 5 to come visit. Due to the flu issues.

Amongst the emerald boughs
And the lemons are like the paleness of a lover
Who has spent the night crying.

Right now our hospital is no visitors under 12. Doesn't matter if grandma is dying or baby sis was just born. No visitors under 12. No exceptions .People are the most selfish pieces of trash over this rule. Always thinking they are special and the rules dont apply to them. We keep the cops busy having people removed. I feel like that there should be an extra punishment for doing shit like that at the hospital. DRIVES ME INSANE

Ours might be 12 too, can't remember. But every year the local news stations issue this report from the hospital. I know I am not that special to defy their rules. But then I'm not an asshole either.

One of the big hospitals here, after 7/8pm you have to check in at the front desk before going to any floor. They have to take your first and last name, then verify it's ok for you to enter farther into the grounds. If your name is on the no go list, you are escorted out.

If a parent or grandparent is dying exceptions should be made. I understand folks being upset about that. I'd be too. Babies.. they'll get to meet their siblings soon enough.

No. Exceptions shouldnt be made. We need to protect ALL the patients at the hospital. The last thing any of these people need is to be exposed to secondary complications. Telling someone goodbye should not come before trying to get people well and keeping them alive.

Why is the cutoff 12? What is the difference of a 12 vs. 13 year old and do you require birth certificates to verify when a kid is visiting dying grandma?

I dont make the rules. I do know that reception will ask certain questions that will help determine if they are elementary or middle school age and if they have any doubt they will deny entrance. I know hospitals in your state do the same thing

Our hospitals rules say this
Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Many hospitals change that during flu season
